An Employer's Guide to Preventing and Addressing Sexual Harassment in the Workplace

Sexual Harassment in the workplace is not a new phenomenon. Since the mid-1970s the law has recognized sexual harassment as an unlawful form of discrimination based on sex. We saw claims explode in the 1990s.  Now, we see sex harassment claims exploding again in Hollywood, Corporate America and everywhere else.  The game changer is that the rise of social media and advancements in technology have made these claims much more public.  

Now is the time for Long Island employers to: develop a practical harassment prevention program; review policies to ensure they provide clear guidance for reporting; and to ensure management is properly trained to recognize any inappropriate workplace behavior. Taking a proactive approach now is critical to minimize risks and liability.
